The holidays are a time for celebration, family, and lots of delicious food and desserts (you guys, my moms sugar cookies though, excuse me while I DROOL).
While it’s totally okay to indulge, you don’t have to let the season derail your health goals. Whether you’re working toward weight loss or maintaining a balanced lifestyle, these five tips can help you stay on track without feeling deprived.
1. Set Your Intentions Early
Decide what’s important to you this season.
Are you working toward specific goals, or do you want to focus on mindful eating and balance?
Setting clear intentions will give you the mental framework to navigate the season with purpose, rather than feeling like you’re constantly trying to “resist” temptation.
2. Prioritize Protein and Veggies
Holiday gatherings are often loaded with carb-heavy options. And while there is nothing wrong with carbs, they can just lead to increased calories intake if you aren't too careful.
Balance your plate by loading up on protein and veggies first, which help you feel more full.
Foods like turkey, ham, green beans, and roasted veggies make for great filling choices, and they’ll leave you satisfied!
3. Use the 80/20 Rule
You don’t have to restrict yourself entirely.
Allow yourself to indulge in your favorite treats but do so mindfully.
Aim to eat nutritious, whole foods about 80% of the time, leaving 20% of your intake for the things you love!!....like my moms sugar cookies!
This mindset helps prevent feelings of deprivation, which can lead to overindulging later.
4. Stay Hydrated
With all the holiday drinks and festivities, it’s easy to forget about water.
Hydration is key for managing hunger, energy levels, and digestion.
Make it a habit to drink a glass of water between each alcoholic or sugary drink, and start each meal with water.
Not only will you feel better, but staying hydrated also helps curb unnecessary snacking.
5. Find Support and Accountability
The holiday season can be tough if those around you don’t share your goals.
Whether it’s a friend, family member, or coach, having someone who understands your goals can keep you motivated.
And if you’re finding it hard to navigate social situations, remember that it’s okay to politely decline food without explanation.
You’re allowed to prioritize your well-being!
With these tips, you can enjoy the holidays without compromising your progress or goals. Need extra support creating a balanced plan for the season? Reach out to me for a consultation, and let’s make this your healthiest holiday season yet!
