What to Expect Before Starting | Personal Trainer Minneapolis

If you’ve ever thought about working with a personal trainer but haven’t taken the first step yet, you’re not alone!
Most people don’t hesitate because they’re lazy. They hesitate because they’re nervous.
Nervous to walk into a gym.
Nervous they won’t be able to keep up.
Nervous they’ll fail again.
I hear these fears almost every week.
And the truth is, almost everyone feels this way before they start. EVEN ME (more on that later)
But here’s what I’ve learned over the years:
The hardest part isn’t the workouts. The hardest part is starting.
What Personal Training Is Really Like
There’s a misconception that personal training is intense, extreme, or only for people who are already in shape.
That couldn’t be further from the truth!!
A good personal training program should be:
Structured
Safe
Progressive
Customized to your body and experience level
Challenging in the right ways, not overwhelming
Most of my clients start as complete beginners. They don’t know machines, exercises, or programming.
That’s not a problem. That’s normal.
That’s my job to guide.
Training at Los Campeones
I train my clients at Los Campeones - Brooklyn Center, and one of the things I appreciate most about this gym is the environment! Its unreal
It’s a place where people take their health seriously, but it’s also welcoming and supportive. You don’t have to be advanced to belong there. You just have to be willing to start.
When a new client begins with me, we don’t jump straight into hard workouts.
We start with:
A conversation about goals
A movement assessment
Learning proper form
Building confidence step by step
Because confidence doesn’t come before action. Confidence comes FROM action.
Why So Many People Stay Stuck
Most people don’t struggle because they don’t care.
They struggle because:
They don’t know where to start
They’re overwhelmed by conflicting information
They’ve tried before and quit
They feel embarrassed asking for help
And I understand that deeply, because I’ve been there myself.
About Young Fitness
I’m Brooke Young, a personal trainer and nutrition coach based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, training clients at Los Campeones - Brooklyn Center
Before I ever became a trainer, I was on the other side of this.
I’ve personally lost over 80 pounds, and I did it the same way I coach my clients today, through sustainable habits, structured strength training, and realistic nutrition.
No crash diets.
No extreme restrictions.
No quick fixes.
Because quick fixes don’t last. Lifestyle change does.
Along the way, I didn’t just lose weight. I built muscle, gained strength, and completely changed my life... not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
That journey shaped everything about how I coach today.
I don’t just understand fat loss, I understand body transformation.
That means helping clients:
Lose body fat
Build muscle
Improve strength and endurance
Develop confidence
Build habits they can sustain long term
My goal isn’t just to help someone lose weight. My goal is to help someone build a body and lifestyle they can maintain for the rest of their life.
What Makes Young Fitness Different
There are a lot of personal trainers in Minnesota, and many of them are great at what they do!
But what sets Young Fitness apart is the approach.
When you work with me, you’re not just getting a workout plan. You’re getting a complete system designed to help you succeed long term.
That includes:
Structured strength training programs
Nutrition guidance
Lifestyle coaching
Accountability
Education so you understand what you’re doing and why
I also keep my coaching extremely personal!
I take time to understand:
Your schedule
Your stress levels
Your habits
Your struggles
What has and hasn’t worked for you before
Programs aren’t copied and pasted. They’re built specifically for each person.
And maybe most importantly, I know what it feels like to be in your shoes.
I know what it’s like to feel uncomfortable in your body.
I know what it’s like to start over.
I know what it’s like to struggle with consistency.
So when I coach, it isn’t from theory.
It’s from experience.
What Happens When You Finally Start
Here’s what I see happen again and again:
Week 1: Nervous
Week 2: Learning
Week 3: Feeling stronger
Week 4: More energy
Month 2–3: Confidence starts to show
Month 6: A completely different mindset
Not because of perfection. Because of consistency.
I always say CONSISTENCY > PERFECTION
Progress doesn’t come from doing everything perfectly. It comes from showing up, even when it’s hard. Especially when it's hard.
You Don’t Have to Be Ready, You Just Have to Be Willing
You don’t need to:
Be in shape first
Know what exercises to do
Have everything figured out
That’s my job!
Your only job is to show up and be willing to try.
If You’ve Been Thinking About Starting…
If you’ve been on the fence about working with a personal trainer, take this as your sign to stop waiting for the perfect time.
There isn’t one.
But there is today.
