Why Hiring a Personal Trainer Might Be the Best Investment You Make

When people ask me if hiring a personal trainer is worth it, I always give them the same answer:

I still hire one myself.

And that usually surprises people!!

Because the assumption is... once you’re a trainer, once you understand workouts, once you’ve gone through your own transformation… you don’t need one anymore.

But that’s not how I see it.

I Didn’t Start This Journey Alone

When I first started my fitness journey back in 2016, I was at one of my lowest points.

I had tried everything:

  • Diets

  • Quick fixes

  • Shortcuts

And none of it stuck.

Working with personal trainers was the first time I had:

  • Structure

  • Accountability

  • Guidance

  • Someone who actually knew what they were doing

And for the first time, I made real progress.

Then I Had to Do It On My Own

When COVID hit, everything changed.

The gym closed.

My trainers shut down their business.

And suddenly, I was on my own.

And I struggled....

I gained the weight back.

I lost my routine.

I felt like I was starting over again...but even worse off.

Rebuilding Everything Changed My Perspective

From 2020 to 2023, I rebuilt everything.

I lost over 80 pounds through:

  • Consistency

  • Strength training

  • Nutrition

  • Real lifestyle changes

And I was able to apply everything I had learned from working with trainers before.

That experience taught me something really important:

👉 You can learn how to do this on your own.

👉 But having guidance speeds everything up.

And Now? I Still Invest in Coaching

Even now, being a personal trainer myself, I still hire a coach.

I’m currently working with a trainer for my bodybuilding journey.

Not because I don’t understand workouts.

But because I understand the value of:

  • Having someone else program for me

  • Being pushed beyond what I’d push myself to do

  • Having accountability

  • Having an outside perspective

Even at this level, I don’t rely on just myself.

Because it’s different when someone else is guiding you.

Why This Matters for You

A lot of people think hiring a trainer means:

“I can’t do this on my own.”

That’s not true.

It means:

👉 You don’t have to figure it out alone.

👉 You don’t have to waste time guessing.

👉 You don’t have to keep starting over.

What You’re Actually Paying For

When you hire a trainer, you’re not just paying for workouts.

You’re paying for:

Structure

A clear plan instead of guessing.

Accountability

Showing up... even when you don’t feel like it.

Progression

A program that evolves with you.

Support

Someone who understands the process and keeps you grounded.

Education

You learn what works, and why.

The Nutrition Piece (This Is Huge)

Here’s something I stand very strongly on:

Workouts alone are not enough.

You can train hard every week and still feel stuck if your nutrition isn’t aligned.

That’s why I include nutrition guidance with my personal training.

Because real results come from:

  • Understanding your intake

  • Building sustainable habits

  • Creating consistency outside the gym

When training and nutrition work together, GAME CHANGER

The Reality

The hardest part of fitness isn’t knowing what to do.

It’s:

  • Staying consistent

  • Holding yourself accountable

  • Pushing when you don’t feel like it

And that’s exactly where most people fall off.

Not because they’re lazy

Because they’re doing it alone.

So… Is It Worth It?

Here’s my honest answer:

👉 If you’re consistent, making progress, and confident in what you’re doing...you may not need a trainer.

👉 But if you feel stuck, frustrated, or like you keep starting over…

Having someone guide you can make a massive difference.
