Someday Isn’t a Day on the Calendar: Why Starting Now Changes Everything

Let’s cut the crap for a second.

“Someday” isn’t a real day.

It’s not on your calendar.

And it’s not going to magically show up when life finally feels calm, affordable, or convenient.

If you’re being REALLY honest with yourself, how many times have you said:

  • “I’ll start next week.”

  • “I just need the holidays to be over.”

  • “Once work slows down, then I’ll focus on me.”

Those aren’t plans. They’re excuses dressed up as good intentions.

And before you feel called out... I’ve been there too.

Why We Keep Waiting for the “Perfect Time”

Most people don’t avoid change because they’re lazy!

They avoid it because change feels uncomfortable.

We tell ourselves we need:

  • A fresh Monday

  • A new month

  • A clean slate

  • More motivation

Here’s the truth no one likes to hear:

Motivation doesn’t come first.

Action does.

There is no magical moment when you suddenly feel ready.

Life doesn’t pause so you can get your ducks in a row.

Bills still come.

Stress still exists.

Schedules stay busy.

Kids still need attending too.

Waiting for the “right time” is just a way to avoid taking responsibility for starting when things feel messy.

My Own Story: Monday Was Always My Reset Button

For years, I lived in the cycle of:

  • Starting on Monday

  • Falling off by Thursday

  • Beating myself up all weekend

  • Promising I’d “do better next week”

I truly believed I needed a clean start to be disciplined.

But discipline isn’t created on Mondays.

It’s created on random Wednesdays.

On imperfect Sundays.

On days when motivation is nowhere to be found.

The moment everything changed for me wasn’t some dramatic overhaul .It was the decision to stop waiting and start showing up consistently, even when it wasn’t perfect.

That’s when habits started sticking.

That’s when confidence grew.

That’s when excuses stopped running the show.

How Excuses Quietly Hold You Back From Your Potential

Every time you say “I’ll start later,” you’re reinforcing a belief that you can’t trust yourself.

That freaking matters!!

The way you speak to yourself matters.

The promises you keep (or don’t keep) to yourself matter.

When we constantly let ourselves down, we don’t just stall progress... we chip away at our confidence. Over time, it becomes easier to quit than to commit.

And that’s not because you’re incapable.

It’s because you’re trying to do something hard without support.

Accountability Changes Everything (Especially for Minnesota Nice Humans)

Here’s something I see all the time, especially here in Minnesota:

We’re polite.

We’re people pleasers.

We don’t want to disappoint anyone.

Ironically, that’s exactly why external accountability works so well!

When someone else is expecting you to show up... whether that’s for a workout, a check-in, or a simple habit... it becomes harder to bail.

Not out of fear, but out of respect.

You stop negotiating with yourself. You stop making excuses sound reasonable. You show up because someone is in your corner, reminding you why you started.

And over time, that accountability turns into self-trust.

You Don’t Need to Be Perfect, You Just Need to Start

Starting today doesn’t mean:

  • Training every day

  • Eating perfectly

  • Never slipping up

  • Hitting 10000 steps

It means taking one intentional step forward.

That could look like:

  • Getting a workout in today instead of waiting for Monday

  • Planning meals instead of “winging it”

  • Asking for guidance instead of trying to figure it all out alone

Progress doesn’t come from gigantic goals

It comes from small, repeated actions done consistently.

The People Who Succeed Aren’t Different Than You

They aren’t more motivated.

They aren’t more disciplined by nature.

They just stopped waiting.

They showed up when it was uncomfortable.

They kept going when it wasn’t convenient.

They built momentum through action... not inspiration.

And yes, it takes effort!

Yes, it feels uncomfortable at first. Like really uncomfortable if Im being honest

But that discomfort? That’s the price of growth... and it’s worth every bit of it.

No More “Someday”

Stop lying to yourself.

Stop waiting for permission.

Stop putting your goals on hold for a future version of you.

Start showing up for your future today.

Whether that means moving your body, making a plan, or finally admitting you need accountability... take the first step.

Because NO ONE else can do it for you.

And “someday” isn’t coming.
